For the first Challenge the Fabric Award, ten nominated designers were challenged to create looks made from MMCF fabrics, with the finale being held September 13, 2018, at London Fashion Week. Six finalists presented their collections at the CTF Award Show and represented some of the most prestigious and best ranked design schools around the world.
The finalists were; Harry Freegard of London’s Central St Martins, Brandon Wen of Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Christine-Marie Valtonen of Helsinki’s Aalto University, Anna Bernal of Arnhem’s ArtEZ, Elena Velez of New York’s Parsons School and Paolo Carzana of London’s University of Westminster.
Brandon Wen, graduate of Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, was awarded 30,000 Euros and the CTF Award.
The decision was made by the remarkable jurors: Jo Barker, Editor-in-Chief, Re-edition Magazine; Tiffany Godoy, Head of Digital Editorial Content, Vogue Japan; Penny Martin, Editor-in-Chief, The Gentlewoman; Tony Liu and Lindsey Schuyler, Founders, Diet Prada; Ann-Sofie Back, Fashion Designer; Heikki Salonen, Founder of Vyner Articles Zak Arogundade, Musician and Designer.
A complementary exhibition was presented by Zhenyuan Yang, Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology; Yiyuan Sun of Shanghai’s Donghua University and Kajsa Willumsen, The Swedish School of Textiles, Borås.
